There are four surviving receipts for work which Capability Brown carried out at Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire, but they do not describe what work he did there, only showing the amount he was paid.
Brown was commissioned by the owner of Lacock Abbey, John Ivory Talbot, between 1755-6 and it is thought this commision was for landscaping in the south park, contemporary with Sanderson Miller's (Wikipedia) changes to this elevation to the house.
Head Gardener Sue Carter has stated that 'There used to be a large formal garden here next to the River Avon. At about this time that disappeared and was replaced by the field landscape that remains today. But, we really cannot say exactly what Capability Brown did here.'
Today, Lacock Abbey is cared for by the National Trust.
